First grade, here we come!

I haven’t even had a chance to go through all of the pictures I took from our long wedding weekend in North Carolina… First we have to prepare for first grade! Jordan’s first day is tomorrow. We had a chance to meet her new teacher: The same woman who taught her brother four years ago! How cool is that? First grade was one of my favorite years in elementary school. I’ll never forget Mrs. Smith. Hopefully Jordan will have as good an experience with her new teacher.

After talking to her new teacher, we decided to go a similar route to how we started Kindergarten, with a short book about Jordan and a chance for her to hand around her helper arms to her classmates. Her teacher can put the book up on the smart board so everyone can easily see the pictures. Since that should be a fun thing to share, I updated Jordan’s book for first grade:

Jordan First Grade Book
Jordan and I just read it twice and I think she’s very excited to share the book… especially with her favorite wedding picture and that last one of her posing in an old fort in Maine. I’m hoping for the best and we’re heading into our new school year with confidence!

If you’re curious how I made the book, I added photos to a Word document and then printed it as a PDF and uploaded it to scribd.com.

So totally awesome! Love it!! You should find a way to market this idea to other parents of kids with limb differences and their schools. FANTASTIC!

Hope Jordan has an awesome time at First Grade!!

An excellent book. And an adorable newborn. Lucky you to get to hold her all day way back when.

What a great idea! I love the idea of the book to read on the first day of class. Thinking this may be a nice idea for my little girl one day. Jordan, you’re an amazing and beautiful little girl and you have an awesome mom.

What a wonderful idea. My daughter Katy just started Kindergarten and she has a below the knee amputation. The District nurse called me on Katy’s first day and inquired how to handle all of the questions, I wasn’t sure how to respond, until I saw your post. Thank you!

That’s so fabulous. Please let me know if I can help with any other brainstorming with your school!
