A city run and a conference chat

What a weekend. Not only did I have a chance to run and raise $500 for Camp No Limits, I had a chance to meet up with really wonderful people at #bbsummit12. The conference included friends I’ve known for a while and others I’ve only known online until this weekend. Plus, I was able to talk about the way I’m able to blend traditional journalism with my blog life. I spoke on a panel with Nancy Loo from WGN-TV, Scott Kleinberg from the Chicago Tribune and Barbara Rozgonyi from Wired PR Works. It isn’t every day when I have a chance to talk about both sides of my worlds and how they mix and match at times. (By the way, as a conference speaker, I was given a complimentary ticket and a really nice pre-conference dinner.) I’m planning to write a journalist-perspective of the panel soon on my geek blog.

After the great conference experience, Barbara posted the audio and a summary of our panel. I really appreciate it! Alos, big thanks go to MJ Tam and the rest of the team at SocialRevUp (Dwana, Melisa and Beth) for inviting me to be a part of a great event.

After the day-long conference, I took on a new challenge: Run in the Rock n’ Roll Chicago Half Marathon. I joined my friend and former student, Jenn, and ran 13.1 through the city in VERY hot weather. But we did it. Plus, I found out that not only can I motivate students and journalists and bloggers… I’m really good at motivating runners. I guess it’s my high energy. Who knows. But what is extra awesome is how Team Born Just Right pulled together and raised $500 for Camp No Limits!! I’m so excited about your donations, I’m running in another half marathon on October 21st in St. Louis!

Thanks again to so many people who support camp, give me extra boosts in confidence on a regular basis and the incredible number of men and women who I have a chance to meet thanks to this blog and my job as a journalist. If you’re super curious to see the dozens of photos took during the race (I love taking pictures), you can check them out:

Hi Jen! I really enjoyed your panel discussion last weekend…and CONGRATS on completing the 1/2 marathon! I’ve never ran in any race before, but I am training to do my 1st 5K soon. It’s not easy!

It really isn’t easy Amanda! But I’ve found running to be one of the activities in my life that is quiet and just for me. The hard work is totally worth it!

I didn’t get a chance to stop by and let you know, but I loved hearing you speak on my panel. Not sure how you find the time for all the awesome things you do, but I totally want to be you when I grow up… Or in my second life, either works…

Thanks so much! Someone asked me yesterday if I’m totally overwhelmed all the time… And honestly I’m not. I stress out about stuff but I love everything I do!
